Can't tell you actors apart!

Like alot of people, I just learned that the guy playing Kato in the new Green Hornet movie is not Jon "Harold goes to White Castle" Cho as I assumed, but a Taiwanese pop Singer named Jay Chou. While Movieline and TV Tropes attributes this to the "all asians look alike" phenomenon, but I beg to differ.

While IMDb has no excuse for letting the misinformation go unchanged, there's another side to this that no one's discussing.  What's going on is a case of assumed recognition based on celebrities most often seen. Forgive me for the really old reference here, but I remember a similar case when "The Flintstones Movie" came out. Everyone I talked to assumed that the young actress that played "Pebbles" was one of the Olsen twins, since they were all over TGIF, when it was another set of twins  . Does that mean all little white girls look alike? IMDb has no excuse for their blunder but most TV/movie viewers should be given a break.

While we're on the subject, anyone noticed how interchangeable Estelle Atkins is with the Mowry twins?

Back on Track, Looking Back

While everyone bids farewell to a bittersweet decade, 2010 marks the end of a college career that began in 2000. Now I sit before my degree on the wall (Next to my High school Diploma and Middle School Diploma (!) pondering where the hell my next.

To think about how much has changed when I began only to compare to when I left.

The Sitting President

2000: Clinton

2010: Obama

My College

2000: Maryland Institute College of Art

2010: Western Maryland College McDaniel College

My Career Aspects

2000: Cartoonist along the lines of Jim Davis ("Garfield", "US Acres") and Gary Larson ("The Far Side")

2010: Screenwriter, Novelist, Cartoonist along the lines of Berkely Breathed, George Herriman, R. F. Outcault, Sergio Aragones, G.B. Trudeau, Charles Addams, Edward Gorey, Frank Cho....

Hmmm. Looking at that last point, I realize now that I had cartooning at my core. I did everything else: newspaper articles, TV writing, speech writing. The stubborn person I am, I had to make my voice known in every other medium before I realized that I did it best on a drawing board.
